Looking for some fun fall activities to do in the fall with your favorite pup? We’ve got the list!
15 Dog-Friendly Fall Activities
Who doesn’t love the fall? The colors, the smells, pumpkin spice everything and sweet apple cider… it’s all so seasonal and delicious.
And if you’re planning your fall bucket list, we’ve got loads of fun, easy, and affordable activities for you and your pup. Whether you want to be indoors, outdoors, celebrate Halloween, or just enjoy the fall colors, this list will check all the boxes. So, check out What The Pup’s top 15 things to do with your dog this fall!
1. One of our favorite fall activities is to go on a fall nature hike
One of the best things about fall is the vibrant colors of the leaves, the crisp fall smell, and the cooler weather. So grab a sweater and your pup, and hit the trails.
2. Take a fall photo shoot
This one might require a selfie stick or a friend, but it’ll be worth it. While you’re enjoying nature with your precious pup, take some time to cherish the moments (and the fresh air) by taking a few photos together.
3. Leaf pile jumping
Who didn’t love this as a kid? Did you know that dogs love jumping in leaves, too? It’s true… I’ve seen it! So rake up a pile of leaves, and let your dog at it. Bonus points if you can snap the perfect photo.
4. Go on a hayride
If you’re looking for an outdoor activity that’s on the chill side, a hayride might be just the thing. Pro Tip: Make sure to check ahead of time to make sure they’ll let your pup join you. But as long as your dog behaves, most places will welcome them with open arms.
5. Apple picking
If you ask us, few things shout fall better than fresh apples. If you’re thinking about a trip to your local orchard, make sure to bring your dog along. They’ll have space to roam around, smell the delicious apples and maybe even have a little taste!
6. Pumpkin picking
Your dog can go pumpkin picking, too! Better yet, let them help you pick one out. They can sniff around until they find their favorite pumpkin. Or maybe you can each pick your own – the more the merrier after all!
7. Pumpkin carving
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. And no, your dog probably can’t carve their own pumpkin. But, why not tap into that inner artist and try to carve a picture of your dog’s face into your pumpkin? We’re willing to bet you’d win the jack-o-lantern contest hands down.
8. Eat some pumpkin
Time to eat! Not only can you make yourself a delicious pumpkin pie or some salty roasted pumpkin seeds, but your dog can join in on the fun, too. Raw pumpkin—the gooey guts inside—is extremely healthy for dogs, and contains lots of good fiber.
And pumpkin seeds are a healthy snack for pups too—either raw or roasted. Just make sure that you don’t add any sugar, salt, butter, etc. to your pup’s pumpkin snacks. Just roast ‘em au natural.
9. Oktoberfest
Tons of cities around the country host an Oktoberfest each year. It’s the perfect way to enjoy some delicious German food and beer, and it’s a great opportunity to bring your pup along for socialization and outdoor time.
10. Tailgate party
Fall is also known for being football season. If you’re going to a tailgate, bring your dog along for the fun! Anything outdoors is an open invitation for dogs. Just make sure they don’t snag your burger or hot dog (or your beer) when you’re not looking!!
11. Weekend trip
Because of fall’s great beauty, it might be a fun idea to take a weekend trip out to the country. You and your pup can both relax, enjoy the fresh air, and unwind a little before Monday rolls around.
12. Halloween movie marathon
Time to snuggle up on the couch with a snack, a blanket, and your snuggly best friend while you settle in to watch your favorite scary movies. Just be careful when putting on Hocus Pocus…we all know what they say about dogs and black cats.
13. Halloween pet parade
It’s time to pull out the pet costumes! You can make your own at home, or order one online. These events are hilarious and adorable and so many towns actually host a Halloween pet parade each October. A quick search should tell you when and where to find yours!
14. Trick-or-treating
Or, you could save that pet costume for some classic trick-or-treating with your little companion. Why not even do a “couple’s costume” with your dog?! You’ll be sure to get some extra treats for having such a cute tag-a-long.
15. Costume party
Hold on to those costumes for one more event… the costume party! If any of your friends are throwing a costume party this year, think about bringing your pup all dressed up with you. Or you can throw your own costume party for all your friends and their dogs!
Fall is So Dog-Friendly
Since fall is a great time to be outdoors, it’s the perfect season to bring your pup along wherever you go! Try one thing on this list, or hey…try them all! And better yet, you can do these dog-friendly activities every year. So let’s get started! Bonus points if you tag @spotandtango on social when you post those pics.
