The holidays are nearly upon us! For many this can be a great time to celebrate gratitude for your family and share the joy with others. Because this is such wonderful time of giving, it is important to make sure we don’t forget about animal rescues who often have a harder time during this period when adoption rates slow and rescue dogs are desperate for their forever home (or even a foster family). That’s why for the first 12 days of December, we will be featuring a different animal rescue each day, sharing how they started, and what they could use most during the holiday season. Tenth up is SNARR Northeast in White Plains, NY.
Badass Animal Rescue was born in 2011 when founder Courtney Bellew met a deaf white pitbull named Frankie. Frankie helped Courtney find her passion and she started the little rescue that has now become national. Courtney first meeting Frankie when walking through the hectic halls of the NYC Animal Control. All of the dogs were going crazy barking and jumping and he was sitting there, as calm as can be, falling asleep sitting up. The kennel worker told us he was deaf. He had gorgeous crystal blue eyes and one adorable black spot at the base of his tail. Courtney made a promise that she would try to help get him out of the shelter…and she did. After meeting Frankie, Courtney returned the next day to adopt him and the rest is history! Courtney wanted to help more, do more…truly make a difference, and SNARR Northeast was born.
Some of SNARR Northeast’s biggest challenges right now are adoptions slowing down and dogs sitting in foster homes longer. SNARR has fewer fosters because of this and it is making it difficult to save more animals. Donations have also slowed down and without these funds, it makes it harder to provide urgent medical care as well as food and supplies to their dogs that are sitting in foster homes for longer.

There are so many incredible dogs in SNARR Northeast’s care looking for homes or foster families during the holiday season!
Dolly was rescued from an area of Texas where the homeless pet population outweighs the resources to help. She and her newborn puppies were rescued by SNARR Northeast when they were being kept in a small wire crate in a backyard void of shade, with only a piece of plywood laid on the crate to shield them from the elements.Dolly is a 50 pound bundle of energy and fun. Her favorite past time is zipping around a yard, and splashing in our pools or chasing her favorite ball. She loves to try to engage other dogs in chasing her. This girl is full of energy, she needs a family that is as active as she is. A fenced in yard would be best to expend her energy. This fun loving girl would make an excellent exercise buddy and loyal companion. Our staff here at the adoption center love Dollys goofy personality she is just a joy to be around. Dolly is currently located at our adoption center in Brewster NY!
Meet this gorgeous guy named Rory. Him and his brother Dolan, were both rescued from a tiny rural shelter in Arkansas. They were in horrible shape and had been terribly neglected by their former owners. We saw their photos and fell in love and wanted to give these boys a second chance ! Rory and Dolan are both incredibly sweet dogs. Rory is very loving and bonds with his humans easily, but he is the more active and outgoing brother as far as personality goes. These boys love each other and do very well together but they are not a bonded pair and can be adopted separately. Their skin has improved drastically but they still have a little way to go until their coats are in tip top shape, but that doesn’t stop everyone from saying how handsome they both are ! They are super friendly and wiggly and have done well with all dogs they have met, all people and lived with children in their former home. They are big boys, weighing in around 65lbs at about 9 months old.
Meet Azul! This sweetheart was found roaming the streets of Texas and was taken in by one of our amazing fosters. Azul is about 2 years old and 32 pounds. She is great with other dogs and loves every person she meets! IMPORTANT: Azul has not yet been altered. SNARR requires a $125 deposit in addition to your adoption fee, as well as a strictly enforced Spay/Neuter Contract stating you will have this dog altered within 6 months of adoption. The $125 deposit will be returned once the contract has been fulfilled.
If you cannot adopt, fostering is a great way to help support SNARR and these dogs!
