The holidays are nearly upon us! For many this can be a great time to celebrate gratitude for your family and share the joy with others. Because this is such wonderful time of giving, it is important to make sure we don’t forget about animal rescues who often have a harder time during this period when adoption rates slow and rescue dogs are desperate for their forever home (or even a foster family). That’s why for the first 12 days of December, we will be featuring a different animal rescue each day, sharing how they started, and what they could use most during the holiday season. Fourth up is Rescue City in Brooklyn, NY.
Rescue City is a professional, foster-based dog rescue based in Brooklyn, New York. They conduct lifesaving rescue transports from open intake shelters that are unable to save a high percentage of animals. Thanks to their efforts, hundreds of dogs are saved every year. Rescue City founder, Stella writes: “Dogs always found me where ever I went. Luck would have it, I’d always find the owners and return them. Until the existence of Facebook and the beginning of true social media networking, I never knew of the “rescue field” and how dire the circumstances within it are. I began by volunteering at rescues and learning. Rescue City was born for me when I decided I could do more!”

Daisy: Daisy is a cute, petite, 16lb 4 month old pup who loves toys of all kind and is very food motivated. It’s impossible to look in her big, brown eyes and not fall in love with this 3-month old Beagle-mix puppy. She’s playful, fun, cuddly, silly, and just completely lovable. Daisy is a quick learner and improves every day with potty and crate training.” Daisy is showing some leash reactivity, and is working with our trainer in an ongoing capacity on her leash manners! She’s bright and eager to please and we know there’s an amazing pup in Daisy, just waiting to come out!
Emily: Prepare to fall in love with this litter of the fluffiest, most adorable pups! These two month old pups looks like Great Pyrenees Mixes. Emily is about 20lbs big, and is fostered with her littermate and a cat. Emily is a little shy and likes to be around her humans. She is a good listener and picked up routines relatively easily. She loves playing with her brother, is very sweet and would be a good family dog. This pup has been a superstar in her foster home with crate/potty training and a very quick learner who is eager to please. She is ready to woo a family looking to raise a young puppy. She’s up to date on age appropriate vaccines, spayed and chipped!
Prince: Welcome beautiful Prince! With those bright eyes he easily captivated all of us who have been lucky enough to meet him. Sweet Prince is about 6 months old and 30 pounds. He was rescued from a shelter in Kentucky and is settling into his foster home in NYC. Prince is working on his crate training, potty training and routine in his foster home. Prince is very intelligent, active and affectionate. He learns things quickly! He loves to be constantly engaged, and loves playing with his toys! Other ways to help:
If you’re unable to adopt, there are other ways you can support Rescue City. An important one is by helping to foster a dog, since Rescue City is entirely foster based. During the pandemic, fostering and adopting was booming. While they’ve always had a need for more foster homes to save more lives, with people returning to the office or having travel plans again, the interest in fostering has greatly decreased. Rescue City relies solely on their foster network in order to be able to save more lives of dogs who are at risk in shelters all over the country. They are in urgent need of foster homes in NYC in surrounding areas who can foster for a couple of weeks to help save these precious lives!
