The Oscars are here! And though we will definitely be tuning in to see whether Kristen Stewart or Denzel Washington (among the many other talented artists) take home an award, we felt it was necessary to share with you our all time favorite dog movies. Because, while we all love a good cinematic masterpiece, there really is no better feature than a dog on the big screen. So, here’s a collection of movies from over the years in which pup’s are the stars of the show. Maybe we’re just biased but, if we were in charge of the Oscars, we know exactly which films would be the winners.
Our Favorite 6 Dog Movies
On the top of our dog movies list is Lady and The Tramp
Personally, I’m not much of a sharer when it comes to food but there’s just something about this movie that makes me want to indulge in a hot bowl of homemade spaghetti with that special someone. Can anyone else relate? Watching two pup’s fall in love while drooling over that extremely long noodle… I mean, what an iconic scene! Not only is Lady and The Tramp a cherished childhood film, but it’s also one of the greatest love stories we’ve ever seen.
Scooby Doo
Scooby Dooby Doooo! Another classic dog movie, featuring one of the most famous pups around. On the island of mystery, our favorite hungry pup (we bet he’d be a fan of Chicken Munchies!) helps his best friends solve mysteries, catch the bad guys, and has fun all the while! I don’t know about you, but watching the banter between Scooby Doo and Shaggy… I mean that’s what friendship should look like.
Homeward Bound
One of the best adventure movies around (at least we think so!). When three best friends make the journey home to their family they encounter all kinds of challenges and obstacles in the wild. But watching our two favorite pups and a sassy kitty take matters into their own paws trekking through waterfalls and hiking up mountains… It’s truly inspiring! There really is nothing quite like home and this flick never fails to remind us of that.
101 Dalmatians
When someone invented the phrase “the more, the merrier”, they were probably referring to dogs, don’t you think? This is partly what makes 101 Dalmatians one of the best movies out there (with over 100 pups!). With one of the most evil villains of all time (if she doesn’t scare you no evil thing will) and some of the best spotted pups around!
Marley and Me
An absolute tear-jerker this one is. As a pet parent, get ready to laugh and cry as you watch a young family grow into a big one! We see Marley go from a wild puppy to a kid’s best friend to an old reliable senior dog and we can relate to each and every stage. Just note – you may need some tissues by your side!
Last on our dog movies list is Because of Winn-Dixie
When a lonely girl meets a mischievous pup, the two of them help the town remember what it’s like to connect and rely on each other. This lovable film reminds us all about the importance of a strong bond and that you should never judge a book by its cover. There’s also nothing better than a smiling pup and wanting to know what the melancholy lozenges taste like!
