Looking for some fun dog treats to make for your pup this fall? We’ve got you covered. You might even want to sneak a bite of them yourself.
As that cool breeze sets in and the leaves continue to turn crimson, it’s hard to believe, but autumn is in full swing. And there’s just something about that crisp air that makes a foodie like me jump for joy at the thought of those fall flavors. You know… that piping hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick stirrer, that warm butternut squash soup, and, of course, pumpkin spice everything (within reason)! And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got all that sweet, sweet candy coming in on Halloween night. But what about our pups? Shouldn’t they get to indulge in the flavors of fall, too? Perhaps a little autumn appetizer before their Spot & Tango main course?
Here are six of our favorite (and super easy) homemade treats to make for your pup this fall. You know, so they don’t get jealous of that PSL you’re sipping on…
1. Pumpkin FroYo bites Dog Treats
Let’s start off with an easy one. This delicious recipe only contains TWO ingredients – yep, that’s right! All you’ll need is 1 cup each of plain yogurt and pumpkin puree. Start by mixing the yogurt and pumpkin together in a bowl. Then, distribute the mixture in an ice cube tray. Freeze until solid, and then serve as a yummy treat after a long fall walk.
PRO TIP – take this recipe to the next level by using fun molds like a witch’s hat or a maple leaf to really get in that festive spirit!
2. Peanut Butter Pumpkin Bars
Alright, for this next recipe, you’re going to need a whopping three ingredients! So, here’s your checklist:
- Flour (2 cups)
- Canned pumpkin (1 cup)
- Peanut butter (½ cup)
You can follow the full recipe here, thanks to the American Kennel Club.
3. Sweet Potato Chews Dog Treats
POV: You had a bag of sweet potatoes sitting in your pantry. You sliced them, put them on a pan, and popped them in the oven for 8 hours low and slow. The result? The best dog (and human) treat around.
4. Apple Crisps
These easy snacks only involve ONE ingredient! Yep, you guessed it. It’s apples. I’m a big fan of Gala apples but hey, to each their own on this one. With a bit of time and patience, you’ll be able to create this perfect apple snack for a crisp fall day. Start by cutting that apple into very thin slices (you can use a mandolin for this, but we’d wear a glove if you do) and then pop it into the oven at 175º for about 5-6 hours to dehydrate! Check out the recipe here for the fine print.
Good luck trying not to eat up these apple crisps yourself!
5. Candy Corn
This spin on a classic Halloween treat will have your dog rolling over for days on end! Grab some yogurt, mashed banana, and canned pumpkin, and get ready to make a frozen version of your favorite childhood treat.
6. Blueberry Skulls
Last, but certainly not least, I bring you this blueberry delight that’s bound to give you the creeps! All you have to do is mix plain yogurt and blueberries in a blender. Feel free to add water until you find your desired consistency. Pour your mixture into skull-shaped molds and pop them in the freezer until solid.
These really are the perfect spooky season snack!
