12 Days of Pawlidays: MayDae

The holidays are nearly upon us! For many this can be a great time to celebrate gratitude for your family and share the joy with others. Because this is such wonderful time of giving, it is important to make sure we don’t forget about animal rescues who often have a harder time during this period when adoption rates slow and rescue dogs are desperate for their forever home (or even a foster family). That’s why for the first 12 days of December, we will be featuring a different animal rescue each day, sharing how they started, and what they could use most during the holiday season. Sixth up is MaeDay Rescue in Los Angeles, CA.

MaeDay Rescue was started in 2010 by Natalie Garcia. Prior to her work as a dog rescuer, Natalie had been a tv show host until one day while driving with her dog Maggie Mae, they got in a massive car accident, forever changing Natalie’s life. Tragically Maggie Mae passed and during her near death experience Natalie realized that she wanted to spend her life doing something she found meaningful: rescuing animals. MaeDay became a non-profit in 2013 and MaeDay outpost was founded in 2019, which is where they host all meet and greets for fosters to come and get supplies and meet their pups. You can see their entire story here!

MaeDay has incredible dogs looking for homes this holiday season, including these adorable pups:

Bessie: Meet Bessie! Bessie is 5yo. and about 12lbs. She has a grade 4 heart murmur which means she will need a heart medication for the rest of her life. Bessie is already fixed, vaccinated, chipped, potty trained and is such a love. She has very wirey fur and whoever didn’t look for her at the shelter is missing out on the best dog! Spikey: Meet Spikey! Meet Spikey a 9 year old spunky deer head chihuahua who is about 10lbs. He loves his crate, is great with other pups, and is good on leash. He was surrendered to the shelter after his original family had a baby and Spikey wasn’t down, we get it 🤣 Follow along on Instagram to learn more about her on social using #maedaySpikey.

Spikey

Meet Dottie! Dottie is about 8yo and 16lbs. She was set to be euthanized at the shelter before we stepped in. When we got her, we noticed that her legs were yellow and turns out she is having trouble holding her pee. We were able to get her to our vet right away for a full check up and bloodwork. We are still waiting on the results of her bloodwork so we can get her the appropriate meds and care. Follow along on Instagram to know more about her. #MaedayDottie
