The holidays are nearly upon us! For many this can be a great time to celebrate gratitude for your family and share the joy with others. Because this is such wonderful time of giving, it is important to make sure we don’t forget about animal rescues who often have a harder time during this period when adoption rates slow and rescue dogs are desperate for their forever home (or even a foster family). That’s why for the first 12 days of December, we will be featuring a different animal rescue each day, sharing how they started, and what they could use most during the holiday season. Seventh up is Badass Animal Rescue in Brooklyn, NY.
Badass Animal Rescue was born in 2011 when the sweet face of a dog on death row in a North Carolina shelter showed up on Sara Cross’ Facebook feed. Without understanding the enormous personal sacrifice that would follow, she volunteered to foster Fred to save him from imminent death. Once Fred found his forever family, Sara realized she had the power to save the lives of many more dogs who would otherwise die in high-kill shelters in the rural South. Since that time, Badass has been established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and has rescued over 3,500 dogs from underserved communities in the southern U.S. and the Virgin Islands. As a leader in responsible rescue, Badass focuses on saving the most vulnerable dogs regardless of their breed, age, size, and medical history.

Joni Mitchell: Meet Joni Mitchell! Joni is a lovable seven year old Lab mix looking for a special home. Ongoing medical issues brought her into rescue; but in spite of that, this girl isn’t blue and she remains as sweet as ever. Kimchi! Kimchi might seem like a funny name, but we swear it makes sense: This 10-year-old sweetheart is a mixture of all the best things affection, goofiness, and unending curiosity then fermented with an extra dose of loyalty.
